SYMPHONY in C Major (The Great) – Movement 2 – Andante con moto
by Ludwig van Beethoven
Score 54 Pages 8 ½ x 14 (Legal)

Instrumentation: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 3 Bb Clarinets, 1 Bass Clarinet, 1 Bassoon, 1 Soprano Sax, 1 Alto Sax, 1 Tenor Sax, 1 Baritone Sax, 2 Bb Trumpets, 2 French Horns, 3 Trombones, 1 Baritone TC/Euphonium BC, 1 Tuba, 1 String Bass, and Timpani

This marvelous songful movement always engaged me – especially with the playful nature and opening melody played by the oboe. Along with playfulness, it also brings along with it a sense of pomp and majesty, followed by a warm and gentle melody in the second major theme at measure 93. The cello part if melodic usually will be found in the tenor sax or euphonium part.

This arrangement is in the original key of A minor, and modulates briefly to A major at measure 267. This modulation has a swirling sixteenth note passage which is in a challenging remote key for the clarinet and saxes. The return to A minor at measure 330 may be a relief.

This piece went together rather quickly because of its simplicity and outstanding writing by Schubert. A few areas for the winds both brass and woodwinds where some woodshedding is necessary exist, but not overwhelming.

I think that the students and audience will embrace the melodies and will stick in the head for days.

When ordered, an e-file will be sent to you with both score and parts. Because of the size of the score (Legal) a professionally spiral-bound printed score can be sent to you for an additional $ 50.00 and ordered separately.
